President and CEO of Cornerstone Marketing and Consulting.
I was born in Stamford and my family and I have a very long history in Stamford, my grandparents came to Stamford in the 1930s and first started The Home Finance Company on Broad St in Stamford, to help Stamford residents get personal or business loans, etc.. when they were not able to get loans from other companies in the area.
Then as time went on, my family opened The Morris Plan Bank on Atlantic St in Stamford, which they later changed the name to The Lincoln National Bank, with branches throughout Stamford that helped Stamford residents get business and mortgage loans etc. And to help the city of Stamford in general, when there were very few if, any other companies that would provide the funding, so my point being I was taught early on to help the people in the city of Stamford and Stamford itself.
So helping Stamford is in my blood, I received my college degree, then I attended graduate school, I have held managerial positions at companies managing large staffs, working on budgets, appointing people to leadership roles, problem solving, and being able to work with people, listen, and make the tough decisions, and showing leadership to make the goals that were set out to be accomplished. Then eventually I founded my own Marketing and consulting company, that helps Stamford businesses, and I did volunteer work also, for all these reasons I feel I am the best qualified to lead Stamford forward and into the future.
To make Stamford a better, affordable place to live in and work in, and businesses to do business in. And do this by pursuing development that provides equitable access to jobs, housing and services, spur economic growth by supporting small businesses, and local centers, attract new businesses to Stamford, expand housing and affordable housing options to meet the needs of all different residents through out the city, seniors, including apartments and condominium projects, duplexes, etc.., convert unused commercial space to residential housing.
Offer incentives to developers to build more affordable housing, also pursue, federal, and state grants to help housing as well. Also a major priority of mine, is to lower property taxes, by controlling expenses, and tax credits. I am a former student of the Stamford public schools, and we need to improve the schools, the infrastructure, lower chronic absenteeism, and improve the reading and math scores for all students at a much faster pace, so that we can make the school system one of the best in the country.
We also need to improve the beaches and parks, the tennis courts and basketball courts at Cove Beach are cracked and decrepid and have been for years. This is a disgrace, we need to finally make all of the beaches and parks flawless, and increase green initiatives. We need to improve and pave all the roads in Stamford not just some of them, and make them safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and hire more Police officers, for everyones safety.
We need to build or renovate more than a thousand affordable units by the end of 2025 that the mayor proposed, if we are going to solve the affordable housing shortage. We need to utilize housing programs more efficiently to help it also. We don't need to rezone 1 family neighborhoods into multi family neighborhoods, this would create more congestion, than there is now. There are other ways to address the housing needs of the city. We could increase the city's affordable housing trust fund to use for current and future needs.
We could also expand the rental assistance programs, and BMR program, also support non profit organizations that specialize in developing affordable housing, and also improve our data management for housing programs to better match supply with population growth.
The cost of living has gone up under the Mayor, the average rent in Stamford is considerably higher than the national average, I will lower costs by eliminating wasteful spending, increase budget surpluses, and I will not be late with financial audits, like the current administration is, resulting in warnings from state officials, and increased costs for tax payers, I am the unaffiliated candidate who is the best new option for voters in November who are disenchanted with the establishment, who can come in with a fresh new perspective on everything, and if I am elected, I will get things done! period, no more excuses!, I will work hard for all the people, not the special interests!
To describe Stamford as the safest, affordable leading city for business and quality of life in the entire COUNTRY, not just Connecticut, where residents come first. The way we get there is what I advocated in my previous answers above, as well as market the city better, more job training, and jobs, and common sense, to move the city forward and enhance every ones quality of life here. If there is a street that has unusually high pedestrian traffic on it and no sidewalks, with speeding cars, then we need to use common sense and be proactive to prevent an accident, and improve traffic signal timing.
We also need to promote alot more resident input in important city decisions, reduce city waste, improve recycling, and handle climate change, and rebuild the Stamford transportation center with housing around it, to improve public transit access, which is overdue. We need to expand senior and veteran services, and services for all other residents as well.
Because of my experience, and commitment to Stamford, I am without a doubt the most qualified to lead Stamford. STAMFORD CAN DO ALOT BETTER THAN ITS DOING NOW, ON AFFORDABILITY, ETC.. SO I AM ASKING FOR YOUR VOTE, TO VOTE FOR ME, YOU JUST WRITE MY FIRST NAME IN, DAVID, WHERE IT SAYS, WRITE IN VOTES, ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BALLOT UNDER THE OFFICE FOR MAYOR COLUMN, THEN FILL IN THE OVAL BESIDE IT.
