Financial Advisor & Tax Partner
As a Financial Advisor and Tax Partner, I balance broad objectives with attention to critical detail. I also listen, and bring passion, compassion, and empathy to my public service and fight for what we in District 13 need at every turn. I embrace the principle of compromise and will continue to set that example, as the Board of Representatives moves into a new term. In 8 years on the Fiscal Committee, I have worked to keep taxes as low as possible. As Vice Chair of the Public Safety & Health Committee and on the Board of Directors of Stamford EMS for 8 years, I have prioritized my commitment to our First Responders and my neighbors’ health and safety. As more than half of the Board of Reps will be new to city government, we will need experience, mentoring, and strong leadership to put the 32nd Board in the best position to serve Stamford. I am excited to continue empowering others and serving with integrity and humility to make government work for everyone.
My top priority is keeping our taxes as low as possible. The cost of living is rising, and we feel it every day. As a resident with kids and the owner of a small business, I’m in the same boat with you. Over the course of 8 years on the Fiscal Committee, I have worked toward the smallest tax increases possible (recently under 2%). I will continue to do so, while not sacrificing our critical investments in education, infrastructure, and public safety.
District Representatives know their districts well. However, building decisions are made by the Planning Board and Zoning Board. Our role is to work with the Mayor to confirm qualified people to these Boards, comprised of perspectives that lend to balanced, responsible development. I will work with the Planning & Zoning Boards as needed, sharing your perspectives and concerns, with an eye of fiscal responsibility to your bottom line.
The Affordable Housing Trust Fund is not directly funded by the Board of Reps. We are limited to ordinances that change various building, permit, and linkage fees. We did raise the Below Market Requirement (BMR) from 10% to 15%, which itself brings a higher amount of fee-in-lieu money to the Trust Fund. However, I urge developers to build these affordable units on site rather than opt out via the fee-in-lieu program. Until such time as the Trust Fund can provide a considerable amount of the affordable housing we need, I want these units to be built on site and occupied by people who need them most.
