Throughout my career in client service roles, I have developed a strong ability to listen, respond, and advocate, which are skills that directly translate to serving my constituents effectively. I am a natural collaborator and problem solver, which I believe are essential traits for working with city officials to find practical solutions and resolve issues for our residents.
A top priority this term is collaborating with the city to alleviate traffic congestion in my district and enhance pedestrian safety. I remain committed to supporting the Vision Zero policy, a citywide initiative aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities.
I am deeply committed to ensuring that our schools are equipped with strong infrastructure and adequate resources. I will continue to advocate for increased funding in the city budget to support essential infrastructure improvements and critical programs that contribute to student success.
The planning board is responsible for deciding where to add apartments, townhomes, and other types of housing. But as a member of the Board of Representatives, we can gather feedback from our residents and provide it to the planning board for their consideration. I believe in smart, responsible growth that helps meet the city’s growing housing needs while preserving what people love about Stamford. That includes looking at ways to convert underused buildings into housing or mixed-use spaces, as long as they align with zoning requirements. At the same time, we need to make sure that new development fits well within the character of existing neighborhoods, and that we invest in roads, schools, transit, and parks so our city grows in a way that works for everyone.
The Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) plays a vital role in supporting Stamford residents who need stable, affordable housing. While the Board of Representatives does not have direct oversight of the fund, it does have the ability to influence revenue through development-related fees.
Recently, the Board voted to increase the commercial linkage fee from 10% to 15% and to reduce building fees to $13 per $1,000 for affordable housing units. However, there is more work to be done. Expanding the resources available to the AHTF will require continued collaboration with the city administration, along with creative strategies to generate funding and promote equitable development.
The Stamford AHTF meetings are open to the public and all the relevant materials are posted publicly. The current fund allocation process appears to be functioning effectively, and I remain committed to stay involved, as the city addresses its affordable housing challenges.
