I'd like to survey D16 and follow the lead of our district. My guess is D16’s top priorities will be:
* quality-of-life issues * affordability * housing, * and tending to the economic engine we have in Stamford.
D16’s priorities should be my focus.
This is a challenging problem.
Perhaps the easiest part of this complex problem is gearing the Stamford public bus system to better serve the community. I understand that the city buses are run by the State. I wonder if local management of the city bus system will ensure the buses serve the city better?
The board of representatives cannot change the management of the bus systems, but it may be able to advocate for change.
In any case, an ease-of-use issue is that credit-card swipes cannot be used to get on a bus. You need exact change or you must reload a special bus card from a website. I believe shoring up public transit will be a good start for any long-term plan for expected housing changes. This will help current residents and any new residents.
Transparency and fairness are very important in every aspect of governance.
Much of the US has an affordable housing crisis. Neither is Stamford immune from this crisis nor is there much Stamford can do to remediate this crisis even within city limits.
I currently do not know how to ensure the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) has sustainable finances. In walking around D16, I've heard concerns from people about affordability. Some of these concerns appear to be coming from traditionally well-resourced households. So I do think the issue here is larger than the AHTF so maybe the solution requires a border and more holistic approach.
