I bring a lot of experience in leadership and management to the board. I have spent most of my adult life in service and in leadership roles. I understand that leaders need to lead from the front and set the example. In addition, l am an avid listener and believe we must first listen to understand what exactly the problem is before we try and solve it.
I am a big proponent of quality of life in Stamford. In a lot of cases, this encompasses infrastructure and affordability. We need investments in our roads, schools, transportation systems, and parks. We also need to ensure generations can afford to retire in Stamford. By working with various departments, I have ensured that projects such as school sidewalks remain on schedule from design and concept through completion. During the next term, large projects such as the building of new schools and transportation hubs, will require discipline to make sure we maintain fiscal responsibility and on-time completion. In addition, by continuing to ensure our economy remains healthy and vibrant, low taxes and affordability are achievable.
The Board of Representatives does not have a direct vote in the approval process of a long-term plan; however, we are a voice for our constituents, and we must understand their needs and wants. The important thing is that the city has a plan for the long term and that it can be modified to incorporate changes that might occur over the years, such as population growth or even decline. As a representative, I will ensure that consistent feedback from constituents will be presented to the administration.
Affordability is a major issue and one way the Board of Representatives can help is by addressing fees that are associated with the building of affordable units. I have supported the elimination of fees for affordable units as a way to incentivize more affordable housing. The role of the Board of Representatives in this area is limited, but there are a few options available that I believe could help.
