As a member of the Board of Representatives, I will bring the traits that have served me well throughout my years of service as a senior officer in the US Army and my career as a finance professional. The single greatest individual trait that has contributed to my success has been my strong work ethic. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a willingness and capability to work through significant adversity to accomplish my goals. Should I be elected to the Board of Representatives, my strong work ethic will be demonstrated through my fierce advocacy for the issues important to the residents of District 1. My proven ability to build and direct high-performing teams reflects my strong leadership trait, which will be valuable as a Board member, especially as a member of a standing or special committee. During my career as a financial analyst, my traits of diligence and attention to detail were critical to making investment decisions. These traits will allow me to understand the budget process and various fiscal operations within the city government, allowing me to contribute to the Board’s role in overseeing the city’s fiscal health. Throughout my life, my core values of honesty and integrity have driven my decisions, whether I was leading our nation's Soldiers or fulfilling my fiduciary responsibility as a fund manager. These traits will also be critical as a member of the Board of Representatives, where acting in the best interest of the city residents and ensuring the public trust is critical.
My single top priority issue as a member of the Board of Representatives will be to do the best job I can in representing the constituents of District 1. Should I be elected to the Board of Representatives, I will not bring with me any preconceived agenda or single issue that will outweigh my commitment to being the best advocate for the concerns of the residents of District 1. To accomplish this goal, I will ensure there is ongoing and consistent communication between me and the residents of District 1. These conversations will be held across multiple forums and will include my regular attendance at neighborhood association meetings, such as the Shippan Point Association, the ALC Beach Association, the Cove Neighborhood Association, and the West Beach Neighborhood Coalition.
While the Comprehensive Plan and neighborhood redistricting are outside the purview of the Board of Representatives, I believe the members of the Board of Representatives have a responsibility to strongly advocate for the concerns of their constituents. Generally, it is beneficial that the city of Stamford continues to grow. As the city attracts new businesses and new residents, the city's tax base also grows. This allows the Stamford city government to sustain and grow the services our residents deserve. However, as Stamford grows, our city government must balance multiple factors, including the concerns of the city’s current residents, the business community, as well as the concerns of our newest residents who seek to make Stamford their home. For balanced growth to occur, Stamford must offer housing that provides an appealing quality of life, which includes safe streets, quality schools, convenient parking, and reliable infrastructure. Any proposed changes to zoning density rules should include changes to rules and ordinances so that parking, traffic flows, and public safety are improved, not worsened. I believe the Board of Representatives must work closely with the mayor's office, the Stamford Planning Board, and the Land Use Bureau to ensure that all of the concerns of the city's residents are fully considered and properly addressed.
The Stamford Board of Representatives does not have oversight responsibilities concerning the management of the Stamford Affordable Housing Trust Fund. However, the members of the Board of Representatives do have the duty to represent those residents within their districts who benefit from this program. It is important that the government of the city of Stamford, which aspires to attract new businesses and residents, ensures that the city's dedicated civil servants and most vulnerable residents can obtain suitable housing. As a member of the Board of Representatives, I would work to build a constructive dialogue between the board and the city's Planning Department and the Trust Fund Board, which are responsible for the operation and revenue generation of the trust fund. This dialog would include exploring options for new and innovative funding sources in addition to ensuring greater transparency in how Fund resources are allocated.
